Thermostat help!
Yeah....I kinda stripped one of the bolts on the thermostat housing. The othe came off fine, but I fvcked the other one.[:@] Can I get a new bolt at any auto parts store or do I have to go through Ford?
Those are the long bolts right? You can go to a hardware store, take the bolt with you, and see if they have one that matches the length. Thread pitch and size is standard throughout the industry so for instance a 13mm bolt is a 13mm bolt regardless of who manufactures it. It's probably metric just FYI. If you can't find it at a hardware store try to find a fastener warehouse near where you live and get one there. I used to work at a fastener warehouse and believe me they can get anything. If you can find one at a hardware store though it should cost less than a buck for just one bolt.
a man has to own a drill...*L* it's a must

if any of the bolt is stickin out try a pair of channel locks but spray the bolt with something to loosen rust

PB Blaster, and depending on which bolt u stripped, try getting some vise grips in there, and make sure they are very tight, and if worse comes to worse, do what my friend did, use a ball peen hammer to remove his doorhandle
, lol dont ask
, lol dont ask
Hmmm.... First i would try vise-grips on it. I have the same car so i know what youre taling about. I have never had this problem though. lol.
Also try whacking the top of the bolt with a hammer, then heat it up and use a crayon and melt the crayon on the bolt. It will get down inside the threads and it will come right out.
Also you could try a Gator-grip or craftsman brandname tool also.
Just a few thoughts. I've had even worse luck, so dont feel bad
I had a 1.9 escort at work a few weeks ago, i went to "fix" another techs mess up. He already put a thermostat in but didnt replace the gasket. So it leaked. I went to take the bolt out and it broke in the head, because the tech before me striped it and just reamed it into the head and thought it would never come back. lol.
So i had to drill, tap and it took me about 4 hours and i got paid 1.5
