Default 1998 GT oil pressure problem

I got a quick question, maybe easy, maybe not.

1998 Ford Mustang GT. Starts up, sounds great. Guy told me that he had it in the shop for a oil pressure problem. here is the problem.

Starts up, had full oil. can drive it for bout ten minutes, then the oil pressure drops to zero. and the motor starts knockin, and pinging. Let the car sit for a little while.. starts right back up. ten minutes later. Same thing.

Is this a bad oil pump? sensor maybe?

Guy had it in the shop, they said they cant diagnose it without takin the motor apart. Car is in awesome shape, and a good deal. however, i seen on here where seems these motors need a rebuild round 120k. that seems like a short lifespan on motors dont you think? My civic went well over 250k before i swapped the motor. of course routine maintenence is important.

rebuilds depend on the maintenence. To me it sounds like the oil pump is going bad. If you hear pinging and knocking when it drops. Probably be a good ides to do a compresion test on it to see if there are any weak cylinders. Also not sure how hard is it to get to teh oil pump on the 4.6's

think i will just go ahead and steer clear of this car then.. not sure if i am ready to have to replace a motor, or a rebuild on it..
