A friend of mine ran next to me in his 1st gen TSI. He has close to $13,000 in his (or so he claims) We ran at the 1/8th mile drag strip with me, he got 8.43, I got 8.14. For some reason though he's still running the stock turbo. He has an aftermarket one, just hasn't got it on yet. He told me he would sell it to me for $2500 with the turbo. I would buy it if I had the money.
I think your friend is full of it. IF he had 13 grand in it id really hope hed do better then 8.43 in the 1\8th and he wouldnt be sellin for that cheap unless ther is somethin really wrong with it. Also, like everyone else is sayin 1gs are fast as it is, you put that kinda money into them they will be pushin well into the 7 mark if they know what they are doing.

Yeah i wouldnt worry too much with a cobra of 400 hp on a basically stock talon. You will blow his doors off. I raced one with my stock gt and he had some modifications done and he got me by like half a car legnth.
HA, you mean 12 buslengths.

I use to have a 91 Talon. About the only good things about them is the quality of the body steel (never a spec of rust ANYWHERE) and the all-wheel drive. Otherwise, they are a mechanical disaster. Engine and transmission is crap. But, they are wicked fast, especialy with a big turbo.
They aren't trash at all. You have to really take care of it and it'll take care of you.lol I have a 1995 gst with full intake and exhaust and even that made a HUGE difference. DSM's have awesome potential. It depends on what year that guy has. The 1 generations(1989-1994) have alot of potential on the stock turbo. The 14b can boost way higher than stock. The T25 on the 2nd generations(1995-1999) are wayyyy smaller and can barely hold boost to redline. If you can tell me what all he has done and what year, I can give you an idea of how fast he is. Either way though, you're gonna smoke him man. There's no way a almost stock tsi can keep up with your car if it has the power you say it does.(not arguing you statement.lol) Does he have the awd or fwd? He'll definately get a jump on you from the start if he's awd. After that though you'll spank him. If he's fwd, don't even worry about it. I can't launch for crap in my fwd, 1st gears pretty much useless when racing. Just race him and find out for sure.

I would like to comment on this. Dont underestimate DSM's they can be very fast. I own a 92 talon with modderate mods and almost guarentee would smoke any stock stang. Its really on how you tune it. Everyone has there own oppinions on it, I've owned 2 Stangs and my 89 was very fast but the talon would just walk away from it. A 400 HP stang could loose to a 300 HP talon or eclipse, it's all in the tune.

It all depends on what he has done to his TSI, If he is AWD, or FWD.
If he knows about his DSM he can EASILY build a 400 all wheel horespower car for under 8k total including the price of the car and not break parts. There are some of us running low 10's on street driven AWD setups under 10k dollar builds.

Choose your battle wisely because he can also be a sleeper
