Is there a stickie somewhere here that lists the Mustang model numbers?

So far I have seen S197, S281 and a few others.

From what I have been reading I kinda figure the S197 is an 05 and up model V6 or GT. Is this correct?

 

S197 is the chassis platform for all 2005-up models, in the same way 'fox-body' is the chassis platform for the 79-93 Mustang. The S281 is simply a model designation for a Saleen-tuned Mustang.

So is it the chassis model or the actual model name youre after?

SN95 or Fox-4 - 94-98
'New-edge' - 99-04
S197 - 2005-up

**65-78 unknown

I think thats most of the Ford-built models with a few Shelby and specials thrown in. You also have tuners like Saleen and Roush, who probably have had just as many models over the years as Ford.
