Question I need some help with a Blinker problem.

I have a 2000 Mustang GT,
My blinkers are acting up. Sometimes they blink really fast and some times they pause for a sec then start fast again. There are no burned out bulbs. I am confused, and they are not going to let me pass my inspection untill they are fixed. There is one thing about 7 - 8 years ago the person that had it before me had the tail lights re-wired for the japanese inspection. The japanese require the reverse lights to be the blinkers and have a external reverse light installed.
Any help would be great! Thanks

Did you check the blinker fluid? lol, j/k Sounds to me it may be a bad ground or short in the system.

Thanks,
Do you know how I could check where it might be coming from?

You can also try the silinoid under the dask. On my 85 the blinkers would speed up when the silinoid was wearing out....

Default Thanks

Thanks everyone for the help. I took the car to the local japanese ford dealership and they told me its because of my aftermarket radio. I laughed at them and went on my way. I then went to a small garage close to where I live and they said when I turn on my blinker its suppose to make a slight clicking noise as it blinks but mine don't do that so they told me I should change out the the blinker switch on the steering wheel. Do you think that could be the problem instead of a short somewhere. Over here in japan its hard to get parts so I want to try to make sure what it could be before I purchase something.

thanks in advance!

Could be your turn signal switch.

Edit: Just read your last post, I would try that, I believe mine just went out on me this week. Lost my blinkers completely, checked all fuses, wiring, only thing left is the switch.

It's the electronic turn signal flasher unit behind the instrument panel. Kinda like a circuit breaker.
