Ignition Problem

Ignition Problem
My 03 just did something very strange. My son asked to use my Stang because we're working on his truck and he went out to start it and the key goes in fine but it feels like the ignition switch is free spinning when you try to start it and it won't start. I've never had a mechanical ignition switch ever break on a car before and I'm wondering if it could have something to do with the Anti theft system. The reason I think it's the Anti theft is because the keyless alarm buttons do not work on either of the hand held units and it acts like it is in the accessory position because the radio is on and the instrument panal is lit up. Has anyone ever had this prob? [&:]

RE: Ignition Problem
I'm going to call round on Monday. I'll post it when I find out. I just can't help but think it's something to do with the anti theft syst. But it could be a broken ignition key barrel.

RE: Ignition Problem
It's very likely not the anti-theft system. It doesn't disengage the key-turn when it's on... It turns off the spark so the starter will crank it but it won't start. I had a problem with my anti-theft system (because of a new instrument cluster) about two weeks ago.
When they key is in the on position (I'm not sure about accessory too) the buttons on the keypad won't do anything (in case, say, the trunk release button gets pressed while driving, that could be bad). I'd place my money on a broken key barrel.
Edit: Just went out and tested with my dead key, fuel pump will start to give pressure but there is no spark, so no combustion!
