Default Chip in paint repair idea?

So I noticed I have a good chip in my paint. From the looks of it I think it's the clear coat but I am not exactly a paint expert. Wanted to get some input on some ways to fix this or should I just have it taken in and redone.

If you run your fingernail across it can you feel it/does it catch? If so its deeper than clear and the recommended fix is a body shop. IF not you may be able to polish it out with a machine polisher and medium to heavy cut polish.

Oh yeah it catches, I had Ford take a look at it they said it was not though the paint. Someone must of hit it with their door and chipped a section of the lacquer.

I was thinking it might be possible for me to fix if I use some touch up. Then apply a coat of lacquer.

Will be watching this. I have a number of chips worse than this that I would like to take care of if I can.

Well, if they think its only the clear coat you can try and fix it yourself. Auto parts stores sell the clear coat in small touch up bottles. Maybe build up the scratch with that, let it dry and then buff it out? Failing that you will be into using sandpaper and trying to feather it into the surrounding panel...not something I would do myself. But then I haven't any real patience for body work.
