Default Mustang engine maintenance

I recently bought a 2000 mustang GT. It has 86K miles on it, and I am not sure what route I should go to make sure it's in tip top shape. As of right now it runs perfectly. No noise or anything so, I guess i'm thinking preventative. What should be done? Should I have it ported and polished, new pistons, rings, rods? If so, how much would these options cost (I assume a couple grand, which is ok). This is my first Mustang so, I am really inexperienced. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

porting, polishing the heads, new pistons etc is not preventative maintenance. Not by a long shot. Its mod’ing.

If you just bought it, I’d start with a tune up and replace all the fluids in the car (engine, tranny, rear diff, power steering & brake).

Good luck...
