Default need to install oil pan gasket

I'm going to replace my oil pan gasket but I have one question. Would I do any damage to the motor if I (while on a lift) were to put the pole jack on the harmonic balancer to lift the motor? I want to get the pan out so that I can check it out and make sure theres no sludge and that the oil screen is clear of stuff.

i wouldn't lift it buy the balancer.

i would put it on jack stands and use a engine hoist to lift it form the top.

I don't want to go through all that just to get the pan out. I don't have the lifting eyes anymore so I can't lift the motor that way either.I guess that I could try to lift it from the trans and hope that I get it high enough. Damn can't do that either becaus the pole jack will be in the way. anyother idea's?

Loosen the trans mount, attach a chain to both sides of the front of the heads, and raise up with engine lift. Or remove bolts from both motor mounts and raise up by putting a 2x4 under oil pan. with floor jack. (make sure to loosen the trans mount). Raise motor slowly, making sure that the rear of motor doesn't interfer with any parts(lines, hoses, electrical parts etc.) Once motor is up, put a 2x4 block of wood between the frame and motor mount..Good luck!! Are you sure it's not the rear main seal? If so need to remove the trans.!!

I'm not really if it's coming from the oil pan at all. I do know that it's coming from the valve cover gaskets because my crankcase breather filter was clogged and was creating alot of pressure for the valve cover gaskets to hold. I'm thinking of just changing my valve cover gaskets and seeing what happens.

maybe it's your PVC valve? Spray some carb. cleaner and see if it moves freely inside. also could be just the grommet. They get old and brittle and won't seal around the PVC,letting oil to leak thru. Good Luck.

I did replace the pcv the hose and the crankcase breather filter. The only thing left would be that grommet. I will have to go to Ford tommorrow to get one because none of the parts store have one. Thanks RacerX.
