Default GASP! A POP AT 5,000 RPM

So I was side to side with a BMW... And we were both runing hard, that is until I had to slow down cuz I heard a pop in the engine (and it kinda stalled a little bit too)[X(]. I think it might just be my carb not adjusted right, but if anyone has any ideas, please speak.

you could be running out of fuel up at those RPMs

you have a stock fuel pump?

The reson why that would happen to me is because of fuel starvation. It happens to my truck all the time when I am under 1/8th tank and nail it hard. It happens when I am at 5450rpms ready to shift and it pops and hesitates. I take care of those problems by keeping the tank higher than 1/8th and a Diablo tuner to adjust for fuel at higher rpms.

Try larger jets to see if that helps. What carb are you running right now, also what ignition system?

My friend's carbed Mustang was doing that in higher gears up in the higher RPM range. It turned out to be a combo of the carb floats adjusted too low and not enough fuel pump. The engine goes lean and miss fires making a popping sound and a feel like a hesitation or stall. I would start in these areas.

If its a mechanical pump, it could be "floating" on the camshaft lobe. Either that, or its just not getting enough fuel to the carb.
