2005 Mustang GT-3.73's going in tomorrow
The 3.73's are going in tomorrow.
I've read every post since this list began (took a week of steady reading - Whew!) and feel confident that this is the right move for my everyday automatic highway flyer.
I have mentioned to the folks that are installing the gears that rear end whine will not be accetpable. I have kinda mentioned to them not to forget the crush bearing and shims, also provided them with Fords specifications for installing the gears.
Thats about the best I can do to help avoid the whinning that some folks here have mentioned.
If they dont run out of time tomorrow I'm also having a set of Saleen UDP's installed that I picked up for a $100.00 from the same shop. The original owner of the pulleys had a SC installed in his Saleen and couldnt use the UDP's anymore.
The next step, and I've done a ton of reading on the subject, is to install Charge Motion Plates to remove the restriction that the factory plates have. Based on my findings this should add another 10hp........we will see. (an expensive little toss of the coin)

The maunual five speed has a taller fifth gear. It makes the 4.10 easier to drive on highways.
The automatic is not as tall and it would rev somewhat higher than an auto. I like my auto with the FRRP 3.73 gears just fine.

Automatic with 3.73's in OD gives a 0.75 X 3.73 = 2.7975 final drive ratio
Manual with 4.10's in OD gives a 0.68 X 4.10 = 2.788
Meaning the automatic version is actually geared slightly lower (has more gear) than the manual version! I like my 3.73's too!
Thx,
Mike

Thanks for the replies.
I drive 99% on the highway, no city.....stop and go. The 4.10's would be cool if I raced or lived in the city. I live in the country about 2 miles from the highway.
As luck would have it the 3.73's wont be going in until the 14th.....nutz! And maybe the UDP's that following Saturday. I want to dyno the GT again after the UDP's are in and Saturday is the best day for dyno time.
Thanks again
