Oh, I don't know why they're that expensive either. But it doesn't really matter...fact is they're bloody expensive!
But as I said in an earlier post, I doubt it's going to get any better. The 06-06 GT's have a totally different shifter linkage, crossmember, and driveshaft arrangement that is not compatible with the T-56. So, regardless if you have a modded T-56 or the special one from Ford, you still need those other parts.
You can get the whole kit ready to drop in and go for $3500, which is no more than Ford wants for the Cobra-style T56 alone. So even if Ford drops their prices to that level once the 07's actually become fully availble, who cares? Why pay that much to Ford for just the trans when you can get the WHOLE PACKAGE for the same price elsewhere?
