Default RE: Questionable tuner!

I have had a tune on my car since 4/05 . My first tuner was a SCT1 with the Steeda CAI . Then I switched out to the SCT2 with the JLT CAI I have not had any issues. But there is one thing I did do to make sure the A/F ratios were right was to go to a dyno shop and have a custom tune done to my car though it did cost me about $200 it was well worth my piece of mine. If your worried about it find dyno shop in your area that has a good SCT tuner and have it custom tuned so then you won't have to worry about the canned tune.

If you let the big time tuners i.e. Brenspeed, Evolution, Bamachips tune your car it will be fine. That is what those guys do for a living. They are not gonna let their rep go down the ****ter from messing up a car. And if they did, I am sure they would do whatever measures were necessary to fix the problems.

so my question is, has anyone had problems with their tune, 91 or 93? How long has everyone had their tune and CAI installed with no problems?
You gotta get a tune to get rid of the throttle lag. My only complaint about my tune is that the engine idles at 3900RPM for 7 seconds when I start it up cold in the morning. Besides that, I really dont like driving my car without the tune. See this thread for a picture of throttle lag:

Go to a custom tuner he can adjust the high idle RPM. After I had my tune done I thought there was something wrong because it did not idle near as high anymore. He told me for some reason most of the canned tunes idle high. My warm up start the car only goes up to about 1600 RPM then idles down to about 700 to 800 RPM'S.

It looks like I am goin with the brenspeed CAI and tuner combo since it comes preloaded with all the tunes... Then ill pop the 91 tune (since thats all us californians can get) and zoom zoom zoom..... 675$ is a lil intimidating, there anywhere i can find that combo cheaper?

I think you will be more impressed with my tunes! Give me a call at 610-485-3596 and I'll hook you up!

Does a tune completely remove the throttle lag, or reduce it???

Which tune is better at reducing/removing it?

I am used to a carburated engine where there is no lag at all-the computer controlled throttle is very annoying....

I just bought my mustang in June 06' and I was lookin into CAI and exhaust mods, maybe gears down the line. My main question is about the SCT Xcalibrator tuner. I got a buddy(he got a terminator) that swears tuning yer engine could lead to serious problems when messing with the timing, A/F ratios and such, so then i lean towards the K&N CAI(which doesn't require a tune). A tune does seem to offer more horsepower, therefore I am also interested in the C&L CAI and tuner combo, but my buddy has totally got me worried bout it....

so my question is, has anyone had problems with their tune, 91 or 93? How long has everyone had their tune and CAI installed with no problems?

I not really that car savvy, i guess thats why im asking.... thanks...
The stock Mustang GT, otta the box, runs rich. Adding a CAI will lean the engine out.........just a wee too much......A/F's in the 14's.........this is bad and will throw a CEL.

If you purchase your CAI and SCT ll from one of the better SCT tuners the tune/s you receive will be just right for your car.

Adding a CAI and tune will really wake up the Mustang.............then you'll start ask'in about rear end gears, then you'll start ask'in about new rims and tires...........and then............and then..........

You get the idea.

K&N says their product doesn't require a tune but take it from me, it isn't the case. While it is true your engine will physically still run okay, the truth is you won't be happy with the performance until you get a tune. I have a K&N and it performs great but if I had it to do over it again I'd probably go with the C&L or JLT. They make a little more power anyway according to the aftermarket comparison of CAI's. You can either buy a CAI by itself and have your car custom tuned or a CAI can be combined in a package with a "canned tune". One way or another you're ultimately going to need a hand held tuner to to the job right. IMHO, a custom dynotune is best because each car is a little different and YOUR car can be tweaked to safely maximize it's performance and the results will be there for you and the tuner to see in real time.
