Only early 2005 models have the carbon trap. They stopped putting them in at some point in the year.
My buddies Feb 2005 production car (the one that went 13.2 stock) didnt come with one.
Leaving it out gains 4-6 rwhp.

PS Whats wrong with 12.8 AFR (Other than being slightly rich)?
On NA cars its not unusual to see 13.1 AFR on these cars for best power.
There's nothing wrong with a 12.8 AFR. I talked to K&N and they highly recommended putting it back in. It is no big deal, I just wanted to know how many people had one but did not install it in the intake. I am eventually going to have the car dyno tuned so I will talk to our local guru about it.

Cheers

K&N has an emissions exemption for the intake. If you have an early car that came with the Carbon Trap and the PCM programming for it you must place itin the K&N otherwise you have disabled an emissions device. The later cars have different factory stategy code and are certified without it.

If your car will run without throwing a code without the Carbon Trap (some will and some wont) and the car isnt lean I would leave it out. Its up to you but it increases the gain from the intake by 50-70%.

Yeah, it ran without throwing any codes but it did go lean on me so I put it back in and it settled everything down. I will leave it in. The car runs great and there was definatly a noticeable change in performance.

Cheers and thanks.
