CAI + Tune = Pinging
#21
Can someone explain how the pinging sounds? I dont think I have ever had a ping with my car (running brenspeed 95 oktan tune). Can you hear it even when accelerating? Or do I have to stand still and just rev upp the engine abit?
(And the 95 oktan is beacuse of how we measure the fuel here in europe, our is 95, 98 and 99. oh, and E85 too.So no difference, only diffrent measurment)

well pinging sounds like a rattle from the engine, like a loose exaust clamp, or like other people say popcorn popping inside the cylinder LOL. You most likely will not hear a ping while revving, you hear it at a certain rpm while flooring it, car will more likely ping if its hot out, up a hill while accelarationg.

I have a Brenspeed 92 oct.(92 is highest in this area) tune installed in my 06 GT stick,(k&n cai) NEVER heard a ping out of it. I have run at ambient temps of 100 degrees. I have tried everything to make it ping. One thing I do religiously is spray down my MAF sensor.(1000 miles) I have NEVER had any kind of idle or performance problems. I pull a plug once in awhile and they are perfect color.

thanx for the responses, keep them coming I wanna know if anybody else has had problems with 91 octane tune from brenspeed, especially in california. BTW, for some reason since the last week that I reloaded the tune, I am having idle problems, the computer is having trouble adjusting. Is there a way to speed up this process?

I can tell you this, when I owned and tuned WRXs Cobb had to come out with different OTS tunes for normal 91 octane versus California 91 octane. IMHO, California 91=crap. Brenspeed should consider a seperate tune for Calif.

I certainly hope they brenspeed tune does not disable them,I dont think its even possible, and it woudl be extremely retarded to disable them anyways. The car only pings at full throttle, at high rpms so the pinging isnt constant that is why the knock sensors cant do anything about it. If it was pinging while driving regularly, then the knock sensors would pick it up and retard the timing, but in this case the computer cant adjust when it happens for a few seconds while at full throttle.
