Brenspeed Tunes for Automatic S197 question
#21
I have to say..anyone that "feels" better about their tunes from bama should take theirs to the track and see. just CAI/Tune only in the auto I got (adjusted) 13.3 with horrible 60fts.. (noob, 2.4 iirc) I bet with someone who knows how to launch could have gotten a 13.1 or 13.0 with their tune.. probably the fastest automatic intake/tune combo out there is from brenspeed unless you guys know of anyone who has done better..

Well I have to say Brenspeed so far is pretty quick on the response. (Thank you) I sent my e-mail to both Bamachips and Brenspeed and Brenspeed has already replied to my e-mail and even this thread. Although the thread title is pretty obvious for Brenspeed
I know both companies put a lot of R&D into their tunes and products so I'd be confident purchasing from either company. I think I've decided though. I just love the way the FRPP intake looks and now that there's aftermarket support for it along with the consideration that I have an automatic. IMO it's the only way to go.
In this case it boils down to personal preference and the fact my concern with the Auto tranny has been addressed by Brenspeed (and the comments by everyone).
Just need to get the wife's nod (eyeroll ) on this to place my order!
Thanks to everyone that commented too!

Bama/Bren tunes ?
Hello fellow AZ resident !!! +1 on the 93 octane statement, the 91 octane out here is pretty questionable as well, anyways I have been down this path, this is what I did.
87,91 octane street from Brent and 87, 91 street from Bama
87,91 octane race from Brent and 87, 91 race from Bama
For daily driving on the street the Brenspeed tunes are killer, shift points are great, even with 3.73s I would still like to have 1st gear shift quick but not go ape **** at every takeoff!!! Also I had him disable adaptive throttle response so the tune stays consistent, not sure if his normal tunes are like that, he also disabled the DTCs for O2 sensors since the SLP cats/ LT headers would throw a code now and again. Now if I want to go out and have some fun I will put the BamaChips tunes on as they are hella aggressive on the street but for daily driving the shifts are too quick and don't !!!
At the track it has been mixed results, my best time to date was with the Brenspeed 91 octane race tune, before the 3.73 gears !!! It was at Speedworld on a perfect day with
a perfect run, since then I can't replicate, especially at Firebird where I am .4 sec slower.
Bottom line, if you want aggressive driving all around get BamaChips, if you want smooth street with good track performance get Brenspeed tunes, or like me get both and see what is best for you !!!

Matt07GT - Must be nice to have 93 Octane in your area. The highest we have here in AZ is 91. Any noticeable change in shifting?
2006BlackGT - See that's what I'm talking about. That's what I've heard as well. That's one reason why I'm hesitant to go with Brenspeed. I haven't heard he does anything different for auto which means I'm sacrificing some performance there...
SYCD - What mods were you running when you had the problems? Are you automatic or manual?
Thanks for the feedback, looking forward to additional comments and feedback.

I am still waiting on my order to be sent by Brenspeed (no problem there, just ordered), I hope I will get what I expect is a modest gain. I am planning on running against the pro tree this year (club racing) with street tires and will be fighting traction at the light but I hope the big end will be where I will recover. I have 104 octane available in town but I doubt it will worth the tune until I run with boost. I have only heard good words about Brenspeed and have confidence that they can help this car perform at it's best as I add more to it.

I have Brenspeed 87/91/93 tunes and I'm happy with the tunes and the service I've got.
I drove the 91 tune for a while, then I got tired of it as I live in area that has 25mph speed limit and I was getting tired for automatic transmission in shifting up and down for not knowing which gear to keep.
Brenspeed sent me a new tune with stock shifting poinst.
Now the car is not as fast as with the original tune but much more convenient to drive as daily driver and still a LOT better that stock.
So, I would say Brenspeed can do their job.
