Breaking in new 2009 GT?

Taking it RELATIVELY easy the first 500-1000 miles is fine but that doesn't mean babying her. Get on her a bit, it won't hurt a thing. Engine break-in periods aren't what they used to be.
As far as oil, early oil changes are NOT necessary like in the "old days" when machining techniques were a bit more crude and left more "trash" in the block. Although it won't hurt to change your oil early, 2000-3000 miles is MY comfort zone on 1st oil changes. After that it's synthetic oil every 8,000-10,000 miles for me (that's another topic that'll spur a ton of differing comments). After 13 high mileage vehicles (over 150,000 - 200,000 + miles), I think I speak from experience.

Treat it like a virgin. Take it easy just like the manual says to. I think it's just about universal that waiting till 7,500 for an oil change is risking it. I've always done mine at 5,000 intervals and have never had any oil related problems.
Treat it wrong and you'll have a broken down car instead of a broken in car.

I picked up an 09 myself in March and have driven it pretty normal. I havent killed it but havent babied it either.
My buddy has an 05 Mustang GT he bought brand new and drove it like he stole it since day 1. First day he had it he was pulling some donuts and putting it up over 120 on the highway. It now has over 50k on it since he drives it year round in the snow as well. He's never had a problem with it.
To each their own I've stayed on the side of caution but I've read almost a 50/50 ratio on how you should break one in.

Well I just vary speeds with mine, I figured the owner's manual would say to very your speeds. I do it without breaking the law. Also I'd change the oil at 3000 miles, there's enough filtering in this car I wouldn't worry about it. I got oil changes included for the lifetime of the vehicle, so I either get it changed every 3k or I get it changed every 3 months whichever comes first. I have about 600 miles on mine right now, haven't really been using it to commute yet. No real plans to either. I haven't gone over 71mph with this car yet either
