Bolt ons
With a stock sized one, it's gonna read the same amount as the stock intake, just more hot air lol. unless it has that little restrictor shield.
so would buying a bigger MAF housing bring in more cold air? or does it make a difference?
Its not about how cold it is, it's about the size of the housing and how much air it gets read by the sensor. Thats why it doesen't matter if you get a new CAI with a stock sized MAF housing because it's not gonna matter, even worse if it does not have the little "heat shield" box thingyajiggy; because then- you'll just be sucking in hot air lol. On the flip side of the coin, you buy a used CAI with a 95mm MAF housing off your buddy for $100, try to make it work and you'll throw a lean code- the car will stumble, gargle and have no power at all (too much air, no calibration and the PCM goes haywire).
It's $600 for a reason.

I'd be a little more aggressive with the initial bolt-ons. I'd go with LT headers with X or H pipe, drive shaft, gears, shifter, pulleys, CAI and a good tune. Personally, I don't think any mod gives more personal satisfaction in installation, visual and sound than LTs.
Ford Racing makes a nice TB. I haven't heard any bad reviews, and it has by Ford. . . . but without FI, the TB will not be worth your while.
