Mach1 03 coolant leaking rear of engine so what are common causes for this location?
Coolant from my 2003 is seeping down from where the transmission meets that rusty "bellhousing spacer plate" (see my pic where the coolant slowly seeps down the "bellhousing spacer plate" and drips off transmission close to there onto the ground).
Trying to guess what should I examine first.
If anyone knows steps I should take to determine what is causing this leak. Like, what should I examine first? Remove the intake manifold first? The water pump? Something else? I cannot drive my car until I fix this so quick advice would be great even if its your best guess or what you think should be done next so I can fix this soon.
What is that gummy looking coolant? Is that from the previous owner using leak stopper?
It is leaking coolant where the pictures show onto the sway bar usually then to the ground. Otherwise from the tranny(where the arrow I drew to) straight to the ground. It leaks when the car is not running after being run. I cannot see a leak in the back on the engine like where the heater hoses are. This is thick yellow Ford Gold coolant mixed with water so its hard to see vs water. This is NOT condensation like from the ac compressor it is COOLANT.
Would be nice to know tricks I can to do eliminate this being one things vs another thing before I dissaemble everything before finding where this is. Looking for someone's best guess what part is most likely causing this else how to determine what part is causing this leak. Thanks!
Don't use leak stopper, that stuff will just clog up your cooling system.
It's most likely the intake manifold gasket that is leaking or in most cases a heater hose line that runs to the passenger side head that is leaking. I'm not sure if the MACH 1 head has that same type of heater hose configuration since it's a 4V instead of the standard 2V but you can inspect the valley area under the intake and bewteen the heads to see if you find any coolant puddling.
The gooey look of the coolant is just because the coolant has mixed with oil from an oil leak somewhere. I wouldn't worry about it until you want to address any oil leaks you may have.
