Default Looking for what engine to buy

I have an 04 stang still with the stock v6 and I want to upgrade to a v8 but I have never done an engine swap before and do not know what engine i should get if it matters if its ford or not or if I would need to replace my transmission which is a manual and I would like to keep it that way

You would be many dollars way ahead squirreling away enough acorns until you can buy a V8 instead of trying to upgrade from a V6.

1. Save your money.
2. Buy a V8 car.
3. Profit.

Is there something special about your current car? Is it very low miles, or does it have an expensive/custom paint job?

What are your goals for the car? Are you buying a crate motor, or buying a donor from a junk-yard or someone parting out a car?

The point is, the cost of a swap is a lot higher than simply looking at the cost of the engine. Not like it was "in the old days", when you just drop something in. Fuel and ignition systems are all computer controlled, so you need to source the ECU, wire harness, etc. Then there are all the ancillary parts that you will want to change "while your in there". If you want a Mustang GT, you will be farther ahead selling your V6, and taking the money that you would have spent on the swap, and simply buy a GT.

If you are doing a full-custom "resto-mod", and want to do a Coyote swap, a Terminator, 5.4L or (god forbid) and LS swap, that is a horse of a different color.
