cut-out exhauast

RE: cut-out exhauast
they are just a Y section of pipe added in the system upstream of the mufflers with a cap or electrically operated gate on one leg of the Y. when you remove the cap or open the gate, you have an open exhaust which is much louder and you loose some of the back pressure in the exhaust system which helps make more power. by the way, they are illegal in most states that do routine inspections of vehicles, so you might want to look into this depending on where you live. if you get stopped on the street with them open, you can get two tickets, one for the noise and a second for illegal equipment, so it's up to you if they're worth the risk or not. if you have them and only open them at the strip when racing, then you probably won't get into trouble with them. you can probably get just as much performance from an off road H pipe and some free flowing mufflers unless you just want the noise of open pipes to impress your friends with how loud you car is!
