If he had a manul shift I would give him the edge if he knew how to drive.
I wouldn't give the guy any edge..........he was obviously too afraid to race. You can't win if you don't race.
But you can't lose either. IF he WERE to race I would give the SS camaro the edge if drivers were equal. I think the camaro and Gt weigh about the same but 35 extra HP and 30lbs of torque could give the SS a slight advantage. But the GT winning sounds logical too.

Yea, but it's still pretty funny for a guy in a faster car to back down because of a loud exhaust note. lol. I guess that encounter just boiled down to a little hand of Poker on the road.[8D]
But had the driver of the SS gone ahead and went for it.........I think jd would have had his hands full tryin to get on top that monster.

I don't know about all of that.

With the mods that so many of us have, were actually about now equal to an SS, maybe better since our cars are newer, and our suspensions are actually a little better/newer. Meaning that the wear on our cars has not yet taken any toll. While camaro's and 'Birds are now usualy pushing the 50k mark or more. I know a lot of guys who simply don't take good care of their cars which could be very fast and nice.

Last weekend I went to the track and was pulling a SS through 1st and second to the point that I was a full length ahead, then I couldn't get 3rd - twice - . By the time I got it in, he had a half car on me, and I began to reel him back in, but couldn't get him.

He beat me by a little over a 10th.

Damn third gear.

The advantage that the F-bodys have is a well developed aftermarket. Swapping cams in the LS1 is much easier than a conventional small-block. It is not necessary to move the intake, valley cover, heads or even the lifters. simply pull the damper, front cover and then rotate the stock cam. This will push the hydraulic roller lifters up out of the way, where (surprisingly) they remain in place. That SS is still a beast by todays standards.

I agree with Mr Rogers and would like to add that the suspension on modern cars does not "wear out" at 50k. My SS is still on the original shocks and with only lower control arms, pan hard bar and drag radials it pulled a 1.54 60 foot. Of course if the car was a beat up pile of crap then yes it could be worn out but in my experiance people who spend the extra $$ for an SS tend to keep them up and not let them turn into junk. When was the last time you saw a car like an SS or Cobra that dirty and beat looking?

Well the f body has a 3 link set up stock the PHR locates the rear end laterally. Even during straight line acceleration the rear end will move around. Honestly I don't know how much it really helped.

You've never been to New Orleans. Unfortunately, down here, the late model GM F-body has become the Woh-Dee car of choice along with the Charger and 300C. So most of the one's which are raced are not taken care of and falling apart, at only 4 years old. Those individuals who do take good care of their cars here typically don't race them, they just wipe them with a diaper. It's sad to see a bunch of F-body's riding around higher than a 4x4 and with 20"s on them, with the engine and interior ratted out.

Incedentally, the one that I raced had the stock wheels still on it and was in good condition as far as I could tell.
