If I buy an '06 GT Convetible what will I run in the 1/4 mile, how much slower will it be than a normal GT, and will I be able to at least HANG with LS1's???

Also, say I am driving on the Interstate (Going off to college, will live about 30 mins from USM when I move in) and my top is down and I see rain coming, do I have to stop to put the top up or can I put it up while driving??
1. Stock mustang M5 will hang with an auto LS1. You'll need to do some work/ a few bolt-ons to "hang" with the stock M6.

2. You should stop or being going pretty slow to put the top up or down. There is a TSB out for broken 05 linkage issues for the top.
If I hook up some Flow 40's the car will sound ungodly, right? I won't get into detail on mods because the car is a good few months away, but I want to map out my first thing (Exhaust). Other than that and maybe a CAI the car will stay the way it is. Insurance on a 2006 Mustang GT 'vert will kill me, lmao. I kinda want a nice looking joy-ride car ... and I love Mustangs, so TAH-DAH!

It will likely be an auto too ... I am used to driving around New Orleans, even though Hattiesburg will be MUCH different ... Don't manuals on the Highway get tiresome?

You get used to the manual after a month or so.

I didn't know auto LS1's run mid 13's?

Usually, yes. Depending on conditions and chassis (hardtop, t-top, vert) and gearing (2.73 or 3.23) they'll run anywhere from 13.2-13.8.

wow, I thougth the auto's were the same if not better.

I saw this one vid of "Ninos" 05 GT with new headers, CAI, 93 Tune, SLP loudmouths, UDPS, and short throw shifrter, and the LS1(stock) Auto walked him.

do LS1 auto's vary that much from car to car . . . cuz my good friends auto only got 13.9 with the stock gearing,

switched it to the 3.23 or whatever and got a 13.5. . . but he was barely 13's stock

In warm weather, high altitude, or with bad tire spin than yes, 13.9 for a 2.73-geared auto is very possible. In hot and humid weather with the lid (best of 13.38) I was running 13.7-13.9. The car is capable of better, though.

without the lid though. . . 13.5+ right?

the lid helped you about a two tenths and almost a full mph. . .

Well, when it's that close (.14) then you have to compare density altitudes (weather conditions) for each run and I don't have figures for those, though they were 4 days apart and conditions appeared to be similar. The best stock trap speed was 105.79 (tirespin got me a 13.60), best with just the lid was 105.89 (13.45). So it's hard to tell exactly how much the lid itself helped. It's a very minor mod.

looks pretty clear to me. . . your 60ft's were damn near identical(2.10 to 2.11)

.14 at 100+ mph is a car and a half

Alright, today was an eventful day before work. I went to the doctor early, went home to change, and was heading to work when I spotted a 2006 Mustang GT. No big deal I thought, nice car! So he revs up ... I'm like "Are you kidding?" Then I thought maybe it was a chance to guage the power jump from mine to that car. So he honks 3 times and we both take off... HE PULLED LIKE A ****, I got my car up to 80 and he was STILL pulling!!!!!!! That car was F-A-S-T, lol.

I pulled up next to him at a red light and asked him how much he paid and what year. He said $24,900 and an '06. Also said he was going to be Supercharging it soon (Wow). So this inspired me (I had 30 mins before work and the dealership is literally right next door) to go check out Mustangs. I told the guy upfront I am not looking to buy a car, just to ask questions for a future purchase. He showed me around, they have some REAL nice "California Special" Mustang GT's on the lot, and I liked the new hood scoops (I know some people are not fans). I checked out a red 'vert and it was GORGEOUS, price was $31,000. The CS and all other Hard Top GT's were under $30,000. Right now I am looking at it like this - I hope to talk them down to around $27,000 or lower, trade in my car (He said they go by KBB, which says my car is worth $8,500 trade in) and whip out 19,000 or so for the car. Not a bad price if I do say so myself.

I really want to test drive one, but I'm not going to bug the salesmen when I have no intent to buy the car until May.
