Default Stupid Volkswagons

So, I'm heading home and passing slow cars on the local highway, as usual, and get to the last turn before I head up a long hill to the gate of the local community. Slow car in front of me, so I'm getting ready to pass it, then behind me I see a pair of headlights passing a car father back and hualing(I was waiting at least for a broken yellow rather than double to pass). So, I pull into the oncoming lane(2 lane road) and pass the car in front of me through 2nd and into 3rd, get past it and pull back into the lane and throttle out completely, and let the car coast down in gear. And it's still coasting down in gear, for a lil while, then the car that was passing behind goes to pass me, still hauling, so I give it some gas, still in 3rd then think that maybe it's just joe citizen wanting to pass me too, and I better not try to race him since he might think I'm trying to keep him from passing and **** him off. So, I throttle out completely, AGAIN and let what turns out to be a new V6 Passat pass me. I'm thinking, ok they have a reasonably quick little economy car, maybe they just felt like passing me too....then low and behold, the emergency flashers come on....oh, you think you've won, have you? So, still in 3rd(I love that gear) I nail it, not even bothering to shift down into 2nd and start pulling hard on this lil VW who's now trying to outrun me. But, within moments I'm flying up on him from behind like a rocket, and was thinking of passing, but decided not to since the gate we were coming up on is manned by the local PD who have a station like 50 feet from the gate. So, I throttle out completely, YET AGAIN, and slow down a bit to open some space, then just keep pace with them. As we round the curve(here comes the good part) that approaches the gate, there's a dip in the road, nothing major, but it can lift the car enough to reduce the weight on the wheels....well, this guy hit this dip, his car looked like a roller coaster the way it lifted(I thought European cars were supposed to have good suspension?) and he nearly flies off the road into a ditch(basically in the middle of nowhere, it's rural out here) but not even 150ft from the police station, I thought he was gonna slide and get squirely and land in the gravel, he nearly over corrects and swerves back onto the road....all the while my beat old 67 just hugs the lane nice and tight, going the same speed as him. I bet he nearly crapped himself, not just cuz he got outrun like he was stuck in park, and outhandled by a 40 year ol beater car, but because he nearly put his car in a ditch 150ft from a police stationjust to lose a race. Sorry if this post was long, but why do people try to race their car beyond it's limit to try and beat a car that is obviously much faster than theirs? It's like watching the same movie over and over, and hoping that somehow the ending is going to be different this time

Yeah, I looked up what the V6 Passats do and was actually impressed for a lil econo/sport Euro car. As far as my mods, it's a 67 Coupe, so it's light, with a 3.00 gear and traction bars with a 4spd manual. The engine is a roller 302 with a Crane hyd roller cam, 2031, the 1.7rr Cobra replacement cam, AFR 165's with Crane full roller rockers and Comp Beehive springs, Weiand Action plus(the new 8124) with a 570cfm Street Avenger carb, Mahle forged flat tops and Scat forged 5.7" i-beam rods for a Chevy. It's still a 302, but with a long rod setup. Hooker Super Comp headers and h-pipe 2.5" through Hooker Aero chamber mufflers with the usual March UDP's and MSD ignition setup(dizzy box etc, but coil is Mallory). It's my driver, gets good mileage too, if I stay out of it
