They have very narrow powerbands, you'd need alot of gears.

if he puts the truck together the right way and doesnt take any short cuts. that "slow diesel" just might edge you out.

[qoute]You do realize that those 5.9L weight close to 1000lbs and redline at something crazy low like 3500 or 4000rpm. Not exactly ideal for a sports car.

Lets just say it can't be done.

It can be done. They have race prepped engines that spin to about 7000rpm. Diesels are no joke.

my brother works with cummins deisels at work and says they are pretty doggy. Just race him in like a 1/8th mile and i'd think you would take him, unless i'm missing something about these trucks, but from what my bros experience was, they were slow.

I wouldn't want a car with a 66/33 weight distribution. I know that diesel motors are capable of being in sports cars, but a Cummins truck motor in a sports car? Not going to happen. The only motor that I know of that is almost suitable of being in a sports car is the V12 TDI from the Q7 Concept, 500hp/730lbft torque. There has been rumors that Audi will put that motor in the R8.

Diesels are scary fast in the right hands...

it is so weird to see something so aerodynamically wrong beat up on what consider fairly quick cars at the track...

never underestimate a diesel pick up, they may be heavy.. but something as simple as a performance chip and an exhaust can turn those things into street monsters. A trucker I know has a newer turbo diesel dodge, got it chipped, exhaust, and a cold air set up, he's torn up a few modded mustangs on the street. Granted your competition is running an I-6 and not a V8, but who knows until the race is over. I'm rooting for ya man.

Very close race. Modded diesels are no joke!
+1 big time. After riding in a co-worker's 2006 turbo diesel King Rancher (with modified tune), I have nothing but mad respect for any 4x4 turbo diesel truck. Hell, alot of ppl seem to be getting these trucks, lightly to moderately modified, into the mid to low 12's without breaking a sweat. I've seen guys with RWD gas trucks dump TONS of money into their motor and suspension and not do any better than high 12's.

Not saying you're about to get smoked, but do not underestimate a turbo diesel.[:-]
