how much time would you want to put into a car? there are some amazing kit cars that get turn at about 1.04g. if you wouldnt have a prob building them that is. a nice pre made one over here would run you about 45k USD, you could prolly build it for 25k yourself. i just ask because its what i want to do. and i would love to have something that is just a beast in everything.

Even just coilovers, sways and sticky low profile tires make a huge impact on the handling of any car. If your car has a lot of frame flex, some underbody bracing isn't a bad idea either. All of that shouldn't set you back more than a couple grand.

yes it's slower stock, but only stock. On an evo 9 if you put $1300 into it you'll have 300 hp to the wheels. If mitsu plans on keepin the diehards the tuner market will have to at least match that. And truthfully there isn't any other car that's quite as easy to cheaply mod and have great gains like an evo.

long time lurker, selling and buying some parts for my v6. Agreed the ls1 is "cheap" to mod, but I'd argue that the evo might be a tad cheaper, especially the first main upgrades. Exhaust is roughly 300 - 400, intake, and a PCM flash will net alot more on that engine than the same on the ls1

Yah, you could argue both ways. MrRogers, a frequenter of this forum, put down 15hp more at the wheels than Chevy claimed at the crank in his Z06 with just an intake, exhaust and a dyno tune. That's around ~70hp gain over stock, which is slightly more than what an EVO / STI is going to see with similar mods. His car also cost twice as much though

I do understand what you're saying though. A buddy of mine spent about $1800 in parts for his EVO MR and ran a 12.1 at the track. In terms of longevity though, and the potential for high horsepower applications for reasonable cost, the LS series is going to win hands down. Why do you think I gave up the 4 banger world and will most likely pick up a Vette as my next project?

ok we need to clear something up...

the EVO is a track car, not drag, so the first thing everyone needs to do, is stop judging it for the drag, that is not its purpose, im sure it will have no problem kicking a stock mustangs butt on a road course. im also sure that a true road course driver, would give up a few tenths in the 1/4 for the ability to turn harder, faster.

the looks? i like the front, it is simpleand clean, which is what i look for in cars. i hate to see flashy crap, the old evo was ok, im not saying it was bad, i just like this better. i think it looks alot more aggressive too...

the rear, i think the tail lights are a bit on the small side, and it ends up making the *** end look bigger then it is, nothing im a fan of, but i could deal.

these are only my opinions tho.

the interior is more comfy, which is nothing i care about, but im sure it will sell more because of it. most people who buy these things are no different then the majority of the public that buys any sports car. people like auto, comfy, and the ability to say "i own this" its why they make vettes auto, and almost anything else.
the biggest problem is when you go test drive one or even buy one (unless to take it to the track) you will never tell that the x is that much better a performer than the IX, because the IX handles extremely well already. The evo was already only selling to a specialized market, and instead of making it more appealing to the rest of the world they pretty much did the opposite, which is a mistake imo. Who knows though, could end up great.
