This maybe way off subject, but figured I would ask while there were some GTO guys floating around. Do the GTO trannys hold up better tostalls and shift pressure better than the 4l60 in the Z28s did? -I heard they sucked just as bad, that's what kept me from ever getting a stall on my 04.

I lost to a ls1 gto when i ran my best of 13.52(some where in the low 50s, but i know i lost by.10 sec) BUT the GTO had a intake, headers, exhuast and DR tires! and im BONE stock w/ street tires. He wasntvery happy, my 60 ft was about 2.015 and he was something like 1.996

Not exactly, if you add a aftermarket converter just get a tranny cooler and you could always buy a deeper pan. I know plenty of gto owners running 3600+ stalls with no problems. My stock tranny blew a couple thousand miles ago so I had it them rebuild it with completly built tranny parts a 3400 stall with anti-balloning plate. My tranny is rated at about 600rwhp. The 65e has the same 3-4 clutch problem as the previous GM tranny's. My 3-4 went at about 19k miles on the stock converter!!! Heat is the main killer of transmission.

Heat got my stalled Z28 tranny too. I had the cooler, but it didn't save it. I put a D1 s/c on it, and the stock trans went out in 2 weeks. Then I had it rebuilt, took the D1 off, and it went out again less than a month later. Both times, the trans fluid smelledburnt and had a grayish tint to it. Finally went with a Performabuilt level 2...then the rear went out[:@] Damn GM drivetrains, all the that power and no way to get it to the ground without upgrading!

I got my money back on the rebuild. The guy had a good reputation, and I didn't really think it would be worth rebuilding, but did it anyway under other peoples' advice. The guy originally charged me $400 to rebuild it (I took it out). All I wanted was my money back and we stayed friends
The performabuilt trans ran me about $1800 shipped and I had to give them my bad trans to avoid a core charge. It is a strong trans, supposed to be good for 600rwhp (I'll believe that when I see it).
