this is horrible

mm not necessarly
the z06 is a 6 speed with 3.42's? So at 65mph its barely under 2k
and the 300c has MDS which cuts 4 cyls off
The srt does not have mds and that gets like 13-14 city 19 highway....and thats a pushrod.

Not to spark another engine debate but...
They are both pushrods.

and thats out of one of th quicker production cars in the world..granted, its expensive, but it shows that it can be done..
amandas grandfather has a 300C, and he gets 35ish on the highway...not too bad considering that it is a low 14 second car...again, its not Z06, but it shows that you can have a strong engine and good mileage.

I get a kick out of this whole thing. There needs to be a lack of common sense tax on vehicles. I worked at a gas station a number of years and there used to be a ton of people coming in with huge suv's and trucks that they really didn't need, but b*tched left and right about how much it cost them to put fuel in it and how crappy their mileage was.
The funniest one, who never really complained, but it always made me laugh was a Bills football player who had a decked out Hummer H2. The man lived in Ohio, and drove to back and forth from his home to Buffalo every day, by himself. Talk about a waste of fuel. He could easily afford it, but it's just rediculous how wasteful people get when they can afford to drive a vehicle like that as a daily driver.

my dad has a truck that he uses all year round for what its built for, and he lives in suburbia. but its used in towing, driving in snow, mud, and the bed gets a beating.
the bills player drives the h2 for the status... nothing else.
this whole idea where people should be driving these little electric cars with no power is crap. the sad thing is, this eco friendly tech is actually worse for the environment. its going to be nice in 50 years when we have millions of batteries littering land fills. its simple to see how this is nothing more then a trendy phase.
when we have a problem with batt. acid, then we will have a whole new wave of people complaining.
I agrre on the suv thing. suv's are 95 percent useless, hardly any one needs them, especially where its warm temps like southern states like cali i mean cmon why bother, even where i live in vancouver island where we get snow in winter its not really necessary. Like maybe for a few days youll be glad you have 4wd but i mean common use chains or just get snow tires and drive sensible. And do you really need that big v8 truck, you can get a v6 or cyl truck with 4x4 that can do all the same things accept towing. Also is it just my area or does anyone that drives suv's suck at driving? Sure seems like it.
That entire aticle is based solely on someones opinion and not actual facts IMO. Yea, it happened in the late 70's, but I highly doubt history will repeat itself in this case. The main reason car manufacturers are concentrating on MPGs right now is because gas is $3 per gallon and most people are not to terribly intrested in bad gas mileage. Itall comes down to selling cars.
The motors are efficient and have been, for the most part, since the dawn of fuel injection. Now, the gearing could really use some improvement. IMHO the final drive in most cars is too high(numerically). My 5.0 is a 5spd, which enables me to get better gas milage than the auto's. I can shift as soon as I like, skip gears, etc. I get 25 MPG with 3.55's (stock 3.08's), and thats not all highway. Now if only I had a .50 6th gear, I would really be set.[8D]
