c'mon now ina mustang forum i dont think tooo many people will care for handling/speed as opposed to straight line drag/acceleration speed
Wolfpup, I was wondering about that just a few minutes ago.I also wondering what the poll results would look like on other car forums like, Corvette forums, SRT Forums, BMW, etc.

There's a wide margin in favor of speed over handling...Seems to be what I would expect on a forum relating to cars that are legendary on a drag strip...

Here is my take. When can you really go push the limits of a ggreat handling car? Are going to do this on a public road? What happens when (not if) you lose it and smack the wall/another car/tree etc. Any serious road racer will tell you how costly it is to actually go to a track Like Road America and race, entry for the weekend is in the hundreds of dollars, then you need brakes, tires etc. To me (and this just IMO) a straight line car is more practical, I can go cruise the streets, nail it from a light and have fun with car next to me, with (relativly) little chances of things going wrong. Then I can go to the drag strip (for $20-45) and race it with very little chances of it getting messed up. Even with my skinnies up front my car drives just fine, I still have my sway bars, no I can't take a off ramp at 80 mph anymore, but to me there is very little fun there. Oh yea, FWD has never handled better than RWD.

Straight line. I really don't care about any other performance characteristic at all. I take corners on public streets at a sensible speed because I'm not a dumbass. Give me an onramp or open stretch of road with no one in front of me, however, and I'll let 'er eat.
"Then why do you still only run high 12s?"
Bah, I'm working on it.

well what would you rather have a top fuel dragster, or a formula 1 car

I can see where jd is comming from though, I have always wanted to road race my mustang but the thought of ****ing it all up scares me[8D]

But damn would it be fun

It's a ton of fun, but in order to really do it you need very good brake pads at the least and good tires. You will end up boiling the stock brake fluid and the pads will fade after only a few laps, plus even when you have good pads you pretty much replace them after each track outing. It's awsome but very costly.

There is no doubt that road racing is an extremely expensive hobby. I don't think tires were mentioned, and R compounds aren't cheap (and most people have a few different sets depending on the track). It's also a much more difficult sport to become good at. No offense to the drag racers here, but there is a world of difference between the skill needed to drag race versus road race.

JD is spot on. There isn't a public road around me that will let me test the limits of my Z06. I'd have to take it to a road course for that. It is pretty cool exiting and entering highways with no one in front of me though. Car handles like it's on rails.

The FWD handles better
erm, Id take a RWD car with a lot of oversteer over a FWD car with a lot of understeer anyday of the week. RWD is def supior to FWD in handling.

i choice speed because every road course is different, so comparing times is kind of pointless.

1320' is 1320'
