The RX8 would be a great track car with an LS1 crammed under the hood somehow. It has knife edge handling, amazingly responsive brake and steering feedback and.......a mut of a motor. The power is delivered in typical linear rotary fashion, it feels so smooth and efortless but it just isn't enough for the other brilliant characteristics the car has when driven hard. If it had 100 more ponies it would be near perfect on the track. I'm not a fan of the rear door(s) either. Soldier you should have have given him a 200 link;-) headstart, you'd still reel him in and fry his sausage...

A version of the turbo 4 banger used in the Mazdaspeed 3 and MS6 would be a good motor for Mazda to drop in it. Especially if they could integrate a wider powerband than the Mazdaspeeds turbo (they drop off at 6k).

Are you serious? People have been putting LS1s in Mazdas for years. They fit just fine...and usually occupy less space than the motors that they replace.

Kind of a funny related story.. my buddy just picked up an auto rx8...

He wanted to race the vette, but I had it up on blocks (was changing the output shaft seal the day before)... I talked him into racing my truck instead just for fun.

Its a sad day when a 4x4 pickup truck with a bunch of fishing gear in the bed puts MANY lengths on a new "sports car"... I'm never going to let him live it down either.

A little over 2 years ago I was in a mazda dealership and there were 2 salesman cornering this guy near the rx8.. the guy asks, "Why should I get an Rx8 instead of a new corvette?" apparently it had a crazy markup.. the saleman responded with, "There are tons of 'vettes but this is a rare car and it sounds like a lambo when you race it" and some other crap about how much better than a corvette it was.. and how the rotary engine puts out more power than the vette even or some such.. I was really hoping the guy didn't get suckered into it. I also didn't buy anything at that dealership.. they tried to sucker me into some crappy used car for 2x what it was worth..

There is a guy around Detroit who has a RX-7 with a Windsor under the hood. Not street legal though.

I was aware it was being done in RX7's. Considering I know little about the RX8 other than my impressions having driven one, I figured I'd take the flame resistant route and just propose the idea rather than put it forth as fact. Rogers, I think we both know an LS1 occupies more under hood space than a 13B ;-)...
