Default 2006 GT Convertible

I have a 2006 GT Convertible with 64,000 miles. Bought it from a friend with 59,000. It rides real rough. Takes bumps hard, with a bang. I heard that convertibles have a beefed up suspension. Is there a way to get a softer ride or would the ride improve with new shocks and struts of original equipment?

Was anything modified on it, especially lowering? If it has been lowered and the rear bump stops not replaced with the shorter style or cut down you will get a harsh ride and it will bang on bumps when the rear end bounces against the rail hitting the bump stops.

I do not know if it was modified. I bought it from the family of a good friend who passed away, so no one would know without inspecting the car. I have taken it a local shop for service. They didn't mention anything. I have not taken it to a Ford Dealer. It looks like you have a convertible. Would you say it rides rough on bumpy roads?

No, but my 2006 convertible was very rough when I put lowering springs on the rear until I cut the top off the bump stop.

JimC makes a good point this may be lowered and riding a lot on the bump stops causing the harsh ride. May also be worn out struts and shocks. If you needed struts we would recommend the Koni Special active shocks/struts. The front struts would be KON-87451401 and the rear shocks would be KON-82451405. These have active valving and alter the valving depending on shaft speed. They control sudden body motions and cornering forces but smooth out expansion joints and rough roads for improved comfort.

My '06 GT convertible still has the original stock suspension. It does not ride roughly or bang over bumps.
