I have a 97 cobra. My wife was driving it home from work one day and at a stop sign in our neighborhood she went to take off and heard POP!!!! followed by what sounded like the worst exhaust leak in the world. She got it in the driveway and it cut off. I poped the hood and there laid the #1 cylinder spark plug and wire rite on top of the valve cover. I had my mechanic come take a look at it and the helacoil was still atatched to the spark plug. The head is striped. Any body know how long of a helacoil you can use on that car without taping the piston at tdc. The one used on the car was about 1/4 to 1/3 of an inch. Or am I gonna have to take it of and send it to a machine shop. Any ideas?

 

I'd send it to a machine shop, just to be sure.
