Default Heads

I was wondering if their are anybetter heads that will fit a 2000 mustang? Are the94-98 work or will they fit? I would like to get mine ported but don't have the money to buy a ported set, and i am not good at saving money up for stuff.

The heads and intake you have is better than the 94-98 already by about 40 hp. If you're no good at saving money forget any head mods then, way too expensive.

Actually i think that the 94-98 heads are better, i read that somewhere? Maybe cobra said it. This is when its all ported you can always just buy some 99-04 heads and work with them, I got some for sale. Ported and polished. I got the 118 spring/retainer kit and 1.90/1.50 valves

94-98 heads are a "little" better than 99-04 (when ported anyways), but to make them fit you'd have to put a single port intake onto your car.

That's goofy, not saying you're wrong, it's just goofy. If they are better why did they change them? If you have to convert to a single port intake won't you lose power? Even if they are P & P it's still going backwards. If the split ports have about 40 hp over the single it would make since to P & P the split port heads for even more gain.

You say they are better "when ported", does that mean better than a stock split port or better than a ported split port?

Here you go. Upon furthur research it appears that the 99-04 intake is compatable with 94-98 heads, but I'd still get somebody that's actually worked with these engines to confirm this.

A note that I feel is very important is that I measured the exhaust ports on the 94-98 and 99-04 Heads as well. Here is what I discovered.

The 99+ splitport has an awesome intake side to the head allowing large amounts of air into the head, unfortunately Ford made the exhaust port smaller than previous years 94-98 Single ports creating a large bottle neck. Don't worry though, this can easily be ported with a flap wheel sander even while it is in the car!

Exhaust port shape doesn't mater a difference in the headers or flange.

94-98 Single Port Heads (D-Shape Exhaust Ports)
Side to Side: 1 1/2"
Top to Bottom: 1 1/2"
Corner to Corner:1 11/16"
----------------------------

99-04 Split Port Heads (O-Shape Exhaust Ports)
Side to Side: 1 3/16"
Top to Bottom:1 3/16"
Corner to Corner: 1 3/16"

I hope this has helped everyone out. Tell me what you guys thought.

Note: When using 94-98 Headers on a 99-04 you need to have a shop enlarge the inlet by 1/4" and bring your 94-98 Headers down for fitment. A muffler shop charged me $5 per expansion on my trucks exhaust. Its cheap and easy

To directly answer your question I mean that the 99-04 sacrificed some exhaust air flow which creates a huge bottle neck in that they allow more air into the engine than a 94-98, but can't get rid of that extra air as effectivly.

Another thing is that the 99-04 heads don't make up for that 40 hp gain over the 94-98, remember the 94-98 intake is extremely restrictive, and that alone, hurts the engine. Another thing to remember is that they had a slightly more aggressive cam, so if Ford wasall about performance, they would of left that cam in the 99-04, but they didn't, why, I don't know, probably because it wasn't fully compatable with the new heads exhaust flow.

When I said "when ported" I ment that the air intake had to be ported more to meet the airflow of a 99-04, both stock, and ported.
