Unhappy Wont go into gear....

I have a manual 1998 V6 3.8 liter mustang. When I push in the clutch I can shift through the gears freely only when the motors off... If the car is running it will not change. I just put a new adjustable clutch cable on but I think the issues may be a bit deeper.

When the clutch pedal is fully disengaged and the vehicle is in nuetral you can hear a mild scraping sound coming from the clutch.

Any one have an idea whats going on with my ride/?

Do you hear a chirping type of sound when the clutch is disengaged?

Didn't you just post a thread about this?

We already told you, the clutch isn't becoming fully disengaged. When the car is on, and you're off the clutch pedal, the clutch is spinning with the engine, along with the transmission. It will spin freely in neutral, since no torque is being delivered out the output shaft and to the wheels. When you push the clutch pedal down, the clutch should disengage from the transmission, so the transmission stops spinning. Then you can put it in gear. What's happening is the clutch isn't disengaging, so you can't put it in gear with the transmission spinning.

Is it an aftermarket clutch cable? If so, throw it out and get a stock cable, from Ford, and just use the firewall adjuster. Aftermarket cables are junk, along with aftermarket TOB's.

Try this: Get under the car, take off the clutch fork/cable shield on the tranny, and have someone in the car and press the clutch down. See if the fork is pulling the TOB through the full range of movement. I can almost guarantee you is isn't.

Yeah, I did...

I understand, I'll go check it out... What your saying makes sense.

and I do have one of those aftermarket cables... that could be part of my problem..

I'll reinstall the stock one w/ the adjuster and update you from there.

I appreciate your help.

My apologies... I put this post up and didn't get any reply's til now so that's why I had the other post up. I should have deleted this thread I guess...

I switched it out to the stock clutch cable and tweaked my firewall adjuster andvand the mustang is running great now.

Thank you everyone for your help and patience.

Xemeth - that was some good advice and is def. appreciated.

ik this is an older post, but adjustable cables are not to be used with the stock adjustable quadrants. They need a solid quadrant.

Default I have a 1999 Mustang 3.8 5 speed..with tons of mods

My mustang will get stuck in gear and if I double clutch I can shift or if I move slightly forward or reverse it will come out of gear, there is no grinding when going in gears but when I put the shifter in neutral the car makes a chriping whine sound mild and if I let out clutch it still seems it's not fully disengaged and will try to stall out..people's telling me ten different things but mostly people's telling me the clutch cable there's no adjustment on firewall it's rubber it seems to be a little lose, also when in first or reverse my car seems to Wana kinda hop? Could this be bc the clutch isn't fully engaged?..the clutch fully disengage when I press the pedal..it seems
