Power steering problem~!
I have a 1998 Mustang v6. Just base no gt or anything. Every time I turn there is a loud humming noice coming from under my hood. Even when the car is sitting still and I turn it on. I just slowly turn the wheel it does it. It is very loud. the further you turn it the louder it gets. and if you turn and hold it there it is constant. I dont know if its the power steerin pump. Its always full so there isnt a leak just I dont think its working in general. Is there a way to tell? I dont know But i would really apreciate some advice.
If the hum turns into a squeal or fluctuating wiring noise, then start worrying. But a humming noise is "normal". If you haven't (ever) replaced the power steering fluid, then I would do that just for maintenance purposes. Don't expect it to cure the humming, but it will help make your pump last a lot longer. Good luck...
hey guys quick question, i hate to bump this old thread but, My power steering completely stopped working. It doesnt whine, but its leaking. Now im thinking that it could have a loooot of air in the line and its not really reaching the rack and pinion. Or maybe since its leaking its not receiving the right amount of pressure to the rack and pinion? any suggestions? By the way, does the powersteering pump have some sort of a filter? i found this odd piece when i was building the engine back up and i dont know where its from. i will be posting up a picture.
