If your running through the gears yourself once you click to D your already high enough in rpm and speed that it will go straight to third. If you have overdrive on it will prolly shift into that soon a well. But if you go like normal and just put it into D from the get go it will drive like a normal automatic.

No, the shifter doesn't change how the transmission works, that's what the valve body and shift kits do.*You can change the whole valve body but usually that gets rid of it being "auto". A shift kit will just help the transmission shift better. I'd suggest against a whole valve body for you and just look at shift kits.

Hammer shifter $199.99

Shift kit $79.99

Look into a tuner after you get the exhaust and shift kit, that will give you a good bump in performance. You can get the tuner before the shifter, that won't make a difference. Also you can do the shift kit without the new shifter.

Ok thank you BabyGT for explaining all that. Now knowing all this, I have one final question I think. Would all these modifications still allow it to pass inspection? With the exhaust on it there will be less cats but since there r some maybe it will still pass safety? I've heard that's where they get you because everyone has to do safety and they look for cats. Luckily I live out far enough from the city of St. Louis that they don't make me do emission testing.

As long as yo have cats you should pass, and the transmission stuff and tuner will absolutely not effect your passing inspection. Best thing to do would be go ask your local inspection station about passing with two less cats, be a shame to do that much work and not pass, if they say no then just get shorty headers and still have the catback made.

Is there a write-up on how to install the shift kit? I'm wondering if I'd be able to do this myself without having to get under the vehicle or do I need to bring it someplace to have them do it? I'm assuming this goes inside the tranny looking at the parts.

I used to have a B&M Quick Silver shifter in my 1970 Firebird and I remember it was AWESOME. Is the B&M Hammer basically an updated model of the Quick Silver?

Yes you will have to get under the car, and the hammer is specifically made for mustangs.

Ok that all sounds good. I was thinking of putting on a 99-01 Cobra front bumper as it looks mean as heck, and a 99-04 GT bumper for the exhaust cutouts.

Do it!

Personally I think the 99-01 cobra front bumper is the best looking bumper for the new edges
