Gears make your engine have more RPM's are certain speed.
Some numbers off the top of my head
Stock: 75 mph=2200 rpm
3.73: 75 mph=2600 rpm
4.10: 75 mph=3200 rpm
I dunno, just numbers off the top of my head.
They make your car quicker, not FASTER, quicker. They can shave a few .0x off your 1/4 easily.

Seconded.
Do gears+LSD at the same time, it'll make your car soooo much more fun to drive.
This is what I plan on doing first.

If you have a stick, I rec 3.73's, if you're an auto, 4.10's.
why do people say that, its completely stupid in the fact that you put taller gears into a car with a taller 5th gear and shorter gears into a car with a short 5th gear, T-5s (5 speed) deff need 4.10s,

Well it also depends on how you drive, are you mostly interstate? city? is it your weekend only car?
There's a lot of things to put into consideration. I reccomended those off of my own perference.

OK, quicker, not faster, that's very clear... not!

I think I see what you mean.

Quicker = faster take-off's, more torque.

Faster = Higher top speed.

Gears actually make your car slower, but you can achieve that speed faster...

Wait, now I'm confused. j/k

From what I understand, new lower ratio gears will force you to shift faster if in a manual, and reduce the chance of bog, but decrease your fuel economy.

Drew
Quicker, yes faster off the line and into the end point
Faster, more hp/torque.

Sorry I suck at explaning things

but the T-5 has a OD ratio of .72 while the auto is .75. why go shorter in the auto? im not gonna say anything on the autos but the 5 speeds, go with 4.10s or just leave it stock. 2mpg and 400 rpms from stock, wow big difference

3.73s changed about 500rpm on my car at cruising speeds on the freeway, so 4.10s would do even more.

so what are you running? if its around 2800 rpms then they installed 4.10s for you cause you will run 2800 rpms with a T-5
