Default Toggle Switch For The Brake Lights

Hey guys, I'm new to the Mustang Forum so hopefully I'm posting this in the right section. Here's my situation: I want to install a toggle switch that I can use to turn my brake lights on and off. So far, I tried tapping into one of the wires coming off of the brake switch and I installed a toggle switch with a light in it. However...the brake lights still came on whether the toggle switch was on or off. So I tried the second wire coming off the brake switch and still the same thing happened. Also, just to eliminate the variables I left both wires unattatched to see if the brake lights came on...and they did. Is there some sort of safety feature or something that keeps the brake lights coming on if their is a problem in the circuit? Any help would be great. And yes I know the danger of doing this so please just help me and dont question my motives. Thanks in advance everyone!

I haven't studied the brake light wiring but todays cars, with their computer control and bussed circuits, aren't like the cars I grew up with. Here's a link that contains wiring diagrams: http://iihs.net/fsm/?dir=1

You want to turn them on or off? By-pass them?
Do want to manually control them when they are on?
Or prevent them from coming on when the pedal is depressed.
Or make them come on whenever you want them on?
Just what are you trying to accomplish and whats the desired end result?

Motives I care not about but whats the desired end result?
What type of logic are you wanting to impose on your brake
light circuit?

Is this for bracket racing? If so there was another thread on keeping the lights on during the entire event... I know it's not exactly what you were looking for, but I hope it helps:

Motivation is pretty important. I'd hate to be the person behind you when you brake hard but forgot to turn the brake lights back on. The only plausible explanation I can figure is that you are hoping to beat a state inspection because of a bad parking brake.

If it's associated with drag racing, it's so he can hide the fact that he's sandbagging.
If it's because he a complete street *** wipe, he doesn't want the cops seeing him braking when he's speeding.

Maybe he got rear ended and died from not having brake lights...
What goes on in IOWA anyhow?
Maybe an Alien Abduction and no WiFi on the mother ship?
