Default Low Pros in Winter?

I was wondering if it would be a bad idea to put some 18 inch black FR500s and low pros on pretty soon. I live in Illinois and it gets pretty cold here sometimes along with snow but my front tires have no tread left on the sides but i dont really want to spend money on winter tires because in the spring i would just get the 18s and low pros. My friend had his low pros on last winter with some chrome 18s and it seemed to do fine but i was just wondering if anyone on here had a better idea. sorry for the novel!

Thanks
Landon

Are you talking about putting all season or non all season low pros?

A low profile tire will increase the chance of rim damage since the winter months are usuallly accompanied by pot holes in roads.

well i was thinking of just putting some KDW 2s on it because i didnt want to spend money on winter tires and then just change them in 4 or 5 months. if its a bad idea to run those in the winter then i wont do it but im gonna be needing new tires pretty soon so i have to decide if im just going to buy winter tires.

Thanks

The KDW2's are not all season. You will get very poor traction in the cold/ice and snow with those.

Thats sure is the truth.

Are the 18"'s you have 8.5" wide? Are you looking to stay stock 18" size? Wider?

I just pulled my drag radials off my winter wheels and mounted the winter tires back on. They need to go on next week, this cold air were getting in Illinois means very little traction.

Tire rack has some good prices for wheels/snow tires mounted up ready to go. Or you can buy take off wheels from ebay and buy some snow tires to mount up.

Lots of choices, just how deep is the wallet?
