Wheel Offset
How much difference in inches are the 255, 265, 275 tires?

A 265/38/18 is no problem up front (or back) on your '95.
I have heard that a 275 is a bit large for the '94~'98 years and can attest to my own rubbing a bit. It did not rub, however, prior to my SLA upgrade, so stick with a 265 either way. You will not properly fit anything over a 275, so a 285 wouldn't work reguardless as it is reserved for at least a 9.5' wheel in nearly all cases.
The 265 ect. refers to the width of wheel in mm's. Since 1"=26.4mm, you can do the math and see how much wider one tire will be over another. This will not ALWAYS equate to more contact patch, however, as the width of wheel comes into play as well.
As for bringing the tires out as flush as possible, you will gain a little more "bulge" with the 265 over your current 255. That means that you will have a 10mm wider tire on each side of wheel. So figure that 5mm is less than 1/4", so you will only be that much wider toward fender. This is NOT an exact science, however, as different tire manufactures can run "wider"/"Thinner" than others in the same size. My 295/30/18" R888's up front are widest at the edge of tire to hold the line better during hard driving.
Here is a pic from my sig:

Kinda hard to tell, but there is a "flange" of rubber that is widest at outter edges of tires. This makes them wider at this point as most tires are wider on the middle sides.

EDIT: This may sound a little confusing unless you know I have two sets of tires/wheels. One for Summer (above) with 295/30/18"s on 10" wheels up front and 315/30/18"s on 11"s out back. Winter wheels are 275/35/18"s on 9"s and 295/30/18"s out back. These will be dead by the end of this season and will have them widened as well.
