PI Head and cam advice
#21
I'm sure mrtstang told you but you will want to get your cams degreed. Don't be cheap and skip it. Nick, owner of MHS, has said cams have come it very advanced or retarded meaning a big lose in power or time for new valves and pistons.

Just a couple pennies here...I kinda find it funny that Comp Cams has been making cams from mild to wild for all types of engines for almost every major manufacturer since like the dawn of time yet everyone is saying that the guys at CMS and MHS know their (you know what)...haha don't get me wrong, I'm sure those guys are experts, but being an expert among experts is not a good argument. I've never ever heard anything bad about Comp Cams products or their pricing at all from anyone...so what is a legitimate reason for the OP to choose CMS or MHS over Comp Cams besides personal preference...??
Its been a full 12 years since the PI head came out and Comp still ain't figured out its got a full 0.1" difference in spring height compared to the NPI head and still spec their PI valve springs totally wrong. You can use that for how much effort Comp put into their 2V modular designs.
BTW - running the Comp recommended PI valve springs is pretty much no better than running a stock valve spring unless you buy the extra 0.1" of shims needed. 12 years and still going and going and going........

What's a real world, realistic HP gain on the Stage 2 MHS cams with everything else stock, head wise? I almost ordered these awhile back, but I was looking at about $1100 for install, tune, etc. on these from a reputable shop..and that's not including the cost of the cams.

Peak to peak 15-20RWHP, above 5500RPM 30RWHP or so. They let the motor rev out finally like its supposed to.

More importantly than numbers are how they perform, and i can tell you that these cams made a definite difference.
