Lol Man they are really pathetic nothing personal they are really mild. I mean 40hp from cams from a stage 3 on a 4.6L engine is rather low since they are mild. They should be stage 1, just compare the lift/duration to other makes

Look Comp Cams Stage 1 Lift in.480/ex.470 Duration in-253/ex270 Comp Cams Stage 3 Lift in.490/ex.480 Duration in261/ex278 Crane Cams Stage 1 Lift 468/516 Duration 256/272 Crane Cams Stage 3 Lift 528/576 Duration 276/292 Crower Cams Stage 1 Lift 480/468 Duration 262/278 Crower Cams Stage 3 Lift 490/502 Duration 278-294
Considing that both Crane and Crower claim a max of up to a 45 h/p gain from their stage 3 grinds, my measily 40 isn't so bad from these pathetic Comps. As I am sure you know, there is a whole lot more to proper cam profiling that just lifts and durations. Anyone cam grind a big obnoxious cam, but that doesn't mean it works properly. So what cams are you running in yours?

Thanks for the info. Not really a gear head here but I do love modding and trying to be fast.[sm=burnout.gif]

Wont run cams because I'm going turbo; and paying 2k for a cam job that will gain 40hp is out of my thought right now. Might as well pay another 2k and get 100-300+hp. I wont mess with the valve opening/closing till I see someone that gets the formula right. I dont want to risk loosing boost because of a wrong choice in the cam profile.

Rethink that. Boost pressure is proportional to backpressure (intake restriction), but inversely proportional to flow. If indicated boost pressure falls after installing cams, what that's telling you is flow increased (that's a good thing) and you'll make more horsepower because of it. In actuality, the wastegate will probably still regulate boost back up to the original amount so that's like a double bonus. The only time you normally see boost pressure fall as a result of engine mods is with superchargers because they can only spin as fast as the engine allows (direct drive). But, even then, you'll make more power at 8psi with the cams, than 10 psi without, because the aftermarket cams allow the engine to flow more air.

It is not that I will loose psi, it is that between the shifts since the cams affect the opening and closing of the valves you could loose the boost and damage your powerband. Cams are very notchy with turbo's and that is why most people keep their custom cams secret when they finally get the right one for the turbo.

I ran into a stock GT on the freeway and we went from a roll. I beat him but not the way I wanted to or thought I would have since he said he was stock and I am putting 311 to the wheels. I think i need to have my tune adjusted

well if cams are all you have done, pretty big jump is you are pushin 311 to the wheels... and i disagree who ever calls stage 3 comp cams as "pathetic"... 40 hp is definetly something i would be satisfied with. comp cams has a very good rep too...

on average, how long does it take to tune the car once you have the cam installed?
