I bought the scotts 5lbs tape from Lowes, same as the 3m. Super sticky, gray w/ the red plastic. It was 1" which is too wide but it worked out well for the front of the scoop and I just trimmed the rest before I stuck it to the car. As far as adhesion promoter, do what you feel good about, but a good wash w/ soap and water and a wipe w/ an alcohol prep pad and you are good. I"ve pulled on mine w/ all my might just for the hell of it b/c I have more tape and to stop my nerous mirror checks every 30 secs and I couldn't even make them budge.

Alcohol is the worst thing to use.
It leave behind all sorts of contaminents and has water in it. [:'(]
The 4298 adhesive promoter 'activates' the acrylic adhesive and
promotes bonding by properly prepping the surface. No 'alcohol'
will ever do what adhesive promoter does.
