I have 285/25 22's up front, came that way when I bought it, it grabs every groove in the road, my wife hates to drive the car on our rural roads. Can't wait to change to a staggered tire and wheel up front but instead of 22's, I am saving my pennies for 20's. My Dodge ram did the same when I switched to 285/45's up front so I would say 06elnr has a rare setup if it is not affecting him or his state takes care of their roads, ours suck.

Could be his roads too.. the roads here are rutted pretty bad, but once I am on the highway its pretty smooth sailing.. going from the factory 235 to the 255 I was worried that the extra inch of width would be a problem but it was not a noticeable difference.

When I was ordering my wheels the sales guy showed me a book that had acceptable wheel sizes for specific vehicles. The maximum wheel size width up front for the s197 is 10".
