Yup. Good thing too.
Yesterday I was waiting in my car outside the hair cut place and this guy parks next to me, gets out, and WHAM hits my door with his. He knocked on window and felt real bad and apologized. It was nice to, "Say its ok, its my winter beater, do it again if you like."

I can't help you with the chains thing but I can tell you I feel for you. I was in Mount Vernon on business last week so I missed the fun over the weekend but I can tell you that people in that area DO NOT know how to drive in the snow. I'm from Northern Ohio so driving in snow is pretty common for me. It seems that in Seattle they think if your tires are spinning you give it more gas and that will help with traction. On the way to the airport from Mount Vernon I felt like I was parting the red sea. I've never had so many cars spin out in front of me.

I was talking about ford saying no chains on gts. it just plain stupid to say no chains. you can damage you car with chains on the v6 to just as easy, you can use class s chains with you car those are lower profile chains that are for use in cars that have lower clearance around the wheel. they even state to use chains in a emergency or if the law requires it like if you where in portland with the snow that hit there you would have to use chains it was required to drive on any road.

no chains on a gt is because its a posi rear end. and you dont need chains. let me say that again YOU DONT NEED CHAINS! i drive every day in alberta canada winter on my oem 17" pirellies. I get around just fine.. oh by the way the rear tires are down to 3/32 and 5/32 fronts are still at 12/32 and thats the way to have it imo, better to brake and steer then go.
if your really worried buy a beater

No chains on a posi is not right there are plenty of cars are posi and they run chains, ford just dont want you to smash up you car running chains that are too loose yes you can drive a round without chains on in the snow i do it chains are for getting out of trouble no into it

if you run chains i would hate to drive on your roads.. Chains are illegal here on roads. sure we use them off road. some spots are chains mandatory for big rigs (hills). I just wouldnt use them at all unless im on a quad off road..
