For me it's a sense of responsibility...

I have a wife, a mortgage and a baby on the way. Wife is leaving work once the baby comes, so we'll be down to one income in a few weeks. So that doesn't help matters. :-)

I REALLY want to get a supercharger, specifically the Vortech kit from Brenspeed. While the $5k or so I spend on it would certainly make the car a ton more enjoyable to drive, that money would be better spent elsewhere.

We've already saved up enough to pay for the first 2 years of our childs college, and she's not even born yet. I could use a small portion of that money to mod the crap out of my car, but that money is for our childs education.

We're also saving up to buy a few acres of land north of Houston so that we can build a nice house in about 10 years when we're 38 or so. I could use that money to mod the crap out of my car, but that money is to help provide my family with a better home.

I also stick a good bit of money into retirement savings every month, I could minimize those savings, but then we'll be falling short of our financial goal of retirement at 55.

So in a nutshell, for me it's a sense of responsibility to my family. If I didn't have a wife and a kid on the way, I'd have bought the GT500 in the first place! :-) And while I really want to mod the car to my liking, I personally don't think it's fair to get my enjoyment at my family's expense.

But to each their own and I LOVE to see the cars folks have on here, there certainly are some beautiful ones!

I guess it boils down to different strokes for different folks!

Default It's called lack of Time & Money!!

I would love to do more to my car, but with a wife and 4 kids I don't have the time or money. Also, going from an Escort to a GT was a pretty major mod (and expense) in itself! (I am still planning on 4.10's this Spring.)

On the other hand, what's wrong if someone doesn't want to mod? I haven't done anything to the V6...

I'm 45 years old and female, so I guess you are talking about me....I guess us "middle aged " women just have really great taste in cars. Remember the Mustang was originally 'the secretary's' car '.... It was really designed for women. Why don't I mod? Well, it's certainly not because I would not, it is more like wantiing to keep the car original for a few years. I have all the extended warranty and service on the car which I am sure would not work out if I began doing mods. I like the look of my car just fine, so I probably would not changed the outer appearance anyway. My husband is a mechanic, and although he is a Chevy man, he and his pals would love the chance to tear into my car....if given the chance. Power and performance? I hate to think how fast my car would be if I let them at it. The first thing they all suggested when I drove it in the driveway was a supercharger.
The other reason would be the fact that I was laid off of a job after working 27 years. I have not yet found a job, so money is budgeted. Just keeping my Mustang is a luxury , although it is paid off.

Why not mod? one other reason.....to make you guys crazy seeing a non-modded GT. "oh look a perfectly stock GT, must be a littel old lady driving to church.....HAHA!"

I'm just taking my time

and I like the way it looks so I'm not going to mod the look
I will in time mod the suspension (mind you not lowering as I have speed bumps to go over and would feel far to uncomftrable if lowered)
then after I've made a good 1/4 to compare to pre-mod then comes the power

+1 to Steve O, some of use have more responsabilties than extra cash, and with the economy going who knows where I am just excited to still be able to drive mine.
We all have our own priorities. Hell if I was single and did not have a house payment mine would be B.A. but on the other hand i love my mustang just the way it is.
However when this economy makes a 180, LOOK OUT.

Personally I am wary of going over the top as far a modding. Putting 700 hp in a DD and expecting it to stay together is a little silly if you ask me. I'd love to put a turbo on my car to get it to about 425 to 450 hp, but funds are tight these days. I like the way a turbo works over a supercharger, because the turbo power comes on gradually and if you drive like a human being it won't even kick in. Superchargers are always on and that just sounds like a recipe for breakage. Opinions vary of course.

The Ford Mustang is the most customized domestic car of all time, more money has been spent customizing them than any other car from an american company
