how do they do it?

For me it's a sense of responsibility...
I have a wife, a mortgage and a baby on the way. Wife is leaving work once the baby comes, so we'll be down to one income in a few weeks. So that doesn't help matters. :-)
I REALLY want to get a supercharger, specifically the Vortech kit from Brenspeed. While the $5k or so I spend on it would certainly make the car a ton more enjoyable to drive, that money would be better spent elsewhere.
We've already saved up enough to pay for the first 2 years of our childs college, and she's not even born yet. I could use a small portion of that money to mod the crap out of my car, but that money is for our childs education.
We're also saving up to buy a few acres of land north of Houston so that we can build a nice house in about 10 years when we're 38 or so. I could use that money to mod the crap out of my car, but that money is to help provide my family with a better home.
I also stick a good bit of money into retirement savings every month, I could minimize those savings, but then we'll be falling short of our financial goal of retirement at 55.
So in a nutshell, for me it's a sense of responsibility to my family. If I didn't have a wife and a kid on the way, I'd have bought the GT500 in the first place! :-) And while I really want to mod the car to my liking, I personally don't think it's fair to get my enjoyment at my family's expense.
But to each their own and I LOVE to see the cars folks have on here, there certainly are some beautiful ones!
I guess it boils down to different strokes for different folks!

It's called lack of Time & Money!!
I would love to do more to my car, but with a wife and 4 kids I don't have the time or money. Also, going from an Escort to a GT was a pretty major mod (and expense) in itself! (I am still planning on 4.10's this Spring.)
On the other hand, what's wrong if someone doesn't want to mod? I haven't done anything to the V6...

The other reason would be the fact that I was laid off of a job after working 27 years. I have not yet found a job, so money is budgeted. Just keeping my Mustang is a luxury , although it is paid off.
Why not mod? one other reason.....to make you guys crazy seeing a non-modded GT. "oh look a perfectly stock GT, must be a littel old lady driving to church.....HAHA!"

I'm just taking my time
and I like the way it looks so I'm not going to mod the look
I will in time mod the suspension (mind you not lowering as I have speed bumps to go over and would feel far to uncomftrable if lowered)
then after I've made a good 1/4 to compare to pre-mod then comes the power

+1 to Steve O, some of use have more responsabilties than extra cash, and with the economy going who knows where I am just excited to still be able to drive mine.
We all have our own priorities. Hell if I was single and did not have a house payment mine would be B.A. but on the other hand i love my mustang just the way it is.
However when this economy makes a 180, LOOK OUT.

Personally I am wary of going over the top as far a modding. Putting 700 hp in a DD and expecting it to stay together is a little silly if you ask me. I'd love to put a turbo on my car to get it to about 425 to 450 hp, but funds are tight these days. I like the way a turbo works over a supercharger, because the turbo power comes on gradually and if you drive like a human being it won't even kick in. Superchargers are always on and that just sounds like a recipe for breakage. Opinions vary of course.
