Default BBK Shorties and catless midpipe question.

Well ive got some BBK shorties awaiting install but for the past couple months ive had mo mufflers on my car, just the stock H with nothing attached. I now want some mufflers back but for the looks not sound, it sounds awesome as is!
I heard one vid with a cactless midpipe, shorties and stock mufflers that sounded great but im a little worried a catless midpipe may not be a good idea. Does anyone make one with a removable cat? Something where you could easily swap a straigth pipe out with cats just for emissions would be nice. How hard is it to change the mid pipe to begin with?

Also, i will see gains with no cat correct? But not so much with no mufflers. So if it sounds good, catless with mufflers is better for power too right?

And i was looking over my shorties when i realized one of the pipes seems to be poorly welded together randomly. Almost like the ran out of piping and added a short piece but didnt bother to line up the weld right. Its the driver side header and the pipe closest to the rear. Anyone else recall noticing this on their header? Seems like a poor design choice or just lousy construction.

Heres a couple pics, it isnt terrible but looks un even enough that it could disrupt the flow of that pipe.
