Help! Can't remove harmonic balancer!
Well I think I figured out what happened. I pulled the pulley on fully, but I think I damaged the first couple mm of threads on the crankshaft using the pulley remover tool. Therefore, the stock bolt isn't quite long enough to reach the threads which are still intact. I'm going to buy a couple of longer bolts tomorrow and some washers to try to get the spacing correct. Hopefully that will solve this problem.
You can't use just any hardness of bolt here from a hardware store or NAPA.
Have you read this "how to"?

I think it might give you some insight.
I hope this turns out OK for you.
EDIT:
Here's another one.

Yeah I've read the how-to's, but none of them seemed to mention that you can't run the tool straight into the crankshaft.
Do you think an 8.8 would be a high enough grade to hold the crank pulley? I know the stock one is 10.9, but I'm not sure I'll be able to find a 10.9 with the 1.5 thread pitch. Most of the 10.9s are 1.75 thread unfortunately.
