What?? Of course a wider tire provides more traction. The larger the contact patch the more friction the tire creates between your vehicle and the road surface. Perhaps a trip back to physics class is in order.

I will agree that switching to a softer compound at this point makes more sense that stuffing something too large under the rear fenders.
