Well, the longer shift arm (about 2 1/2 inches) made no change. So, I think the drive line is still moving enough to cause and issue. I'm wondering if the MGW shifter will fix this..

...I heard that there was an issue with 1st to 2nd grinding and that there was a TSB, but I' not sure.

If you haven't visited your dealer to check into the TSB, I recommend in doing so immediately. If you'd like, please PM me your VIN, mileage, phone #, and preferred servicing dealer; I'll send all info to your region's Customer Service Manager.

Thats right first time, the 2nd time i was at a gas station around 3K miles later, and put in reverse to back up to an open pump, the shifter came out of gear when i tried to go foward but the trans didnt, it was stuck in reverse, I had to get it towed to ford with less than 40K, they took it apart again and told me the shift rails were completly shot and bent, they didnt rebuild this one and i told them i dont want a rebuld anymore cause they couldnt do it the first time, they ordered me a new tranny...

How's your 'Stang doing now? Having the techs perform an inspection is the best course of action; thanks for sharing!

Take care,

Thomas

Just got off the phone with MGW and spoke to the designer of the shifter about my issue (VERY knowledgeable guy by the way!). He said it sounds like a syncro is lazy or worn but with the mileage on my car its hard to tell (it only has 21k and it has only been doing this for about 3k miles). He also said the shifter may or may not fix the problem. But the MGW was rock solid compared to the Hurst in the way they mount.

So, even though the MGW may not fix the problem its definitely a superior shifter by far. So I ordered it.. Even if it only helps its still better in the long run. I may be looking a new syncros at some point but, it is what it is..

Try shortening the torque limiter on the right slightly and lengthening the one on the left. The idea is to preload the transmission in the opposite direction of movement. I may have that backwards, which direction does the motor turn?

Thats something I never thought about, I have mine set neutral (no preload). I did some research today and according to CHE, They say to pull "down" on the drivers side and lift "up" on the pass side about 3/4 - 1 full turn each.

I have the same probleme, but im on B&M short shifter, only happen while shifting from one to two, sometime, it just grind and not enter, only happen at high rpm and if i try to shift it too quick..might just be me sucking at shifting when the car is starting to get pretty violent on high first gear's rpm, but it does grind when i try power launch at 4k and try to get my 2nd gear to spin...usually grind and just f*ck up the spinning...lame juice
